I wanted to replace the factory HDD with an SSD and now the laptop does not detect the SSD or the previous HDD. I tried resetting the BIOS, removing the CMOS battery and updating the BIOS to no resolution. Now I have a non functioning laptop and have run out of things to try to fix it.

Greetings @trickbiker121,
Thanks for the post.
I understand that you changed the HDD to SSD and now both are not getting detected, is that right?
Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.
Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.
May I know the exact product number of your computer? Click here. Please do not share the serial number of your computer.
Have you run a diagnostics on your computer?
Do you get any error codes when you run the diagnostics for SSD and HDD?
If both the drives are not getting detected, there might be an issue with the HDD connector on the computer itself.
Turn the computer On and keep tapping F2 repeatedly on startup to enter system diagnostics.
Run a system test to make sure all the components are working fine.
Refer to this HP article for assistance in running a system test on your computer.
Keep me posted.

The product ID is E1P05AV. I did do the diagnostic test and all the componets are in good condition except for HDD which says it is not installed. I did order a new Sata connector and hope this will solve the issue and is not an issue on the MB it self. I will say that on my old HDD i was getting a SMART error on start up and this is the reason I bought the SSD to switch with. I hope that SMART BIOS error did not corrupt anything.

Thanks for the reply and providing more information, if the HDD is not getting detected, you will need to replace the HDD on your computer.
Connect only the SSD on your computer and install the OS using the recovery kit created on your computer.
If you do not have a recovery kit created on your computer, please contact our phone support team to order a copy of the recovery kit.
Please click here to download the service guide of your computer.
