Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello.

15-ac005na laptop

We came back from a weeks holiday to find that the laptop would not operate off the battery though it was fine before we went away and the laptop it still operates OK on the mains lead,

The system reported the battery was down to 2% charge so I tried recharging it but it would not increase from its "2% charged" figure despite the fact the "plug" symbol came up (and the orange LED by the power input lit) indicating the battery was detected and charging. I tried reinstalling the ACPI control and resetting the battery control (sw off, power button for 30 sec etc) but it made no difference. It was a pattern part and is 11 months old so I wondered if the battery was U/S so I ran the HP battery checker which reported it to be faulty (though it was working well before we went away !).

Ordered another battery (pattern part again) which came but that won't work either ! The LED glows orange then white (indicating charging then charged) and the "plug" symbol reports it is detected and charging, furthermore the system reports it as being 100% charged. Yet, as with the 1st battery, the laptop cuts out immediately the power cord is pulled out. Tried the power reset and reinstalling the ACPI (again...) but to no avail. Weirdly the HP battery checker indicates the new battery is also faulty, but what are the chances that two batteries are both sufficiently faulty to prevent any operation when one was defn OK 8 days before and the other was brand new ?!?

I downloaded and installed the "latest" BIOS firmware update (though it appeared to be from 2018 ! ) but it made no difference.

The laptop will still not operate off the battery despite it reporting one of the batteries as being 100% full!

I have now tried a third battery, a pattern part but all the other pattern batteries I have fitted have worked, up till recently.

The HP battery checker and the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics both report that the battery is faulty, but I would have thought having three faulty batteries was thousands to one against.....
