When I press the power button on the laptop, I see the white Power LED turn on. Nothing shows on the screen. I've waited for 10 minutes, but nothing happens. The other LED that shows hard drive activity blinks once when the computer first turns on, then it remains off. I have tried to click on ESC + F10 to see if I could get to the BIOS screen but it doesn't work. I followed some HP Virtual Agent suggestions and pressed the windows key + B while booting to initiate a BIOS recovery. The screen did actually come turn on and the BIOS update screen showed that it was recovering. After that was done, the laptop restarted but the screen remains off and I'm back to where I started.
I was using the laptop without issue yesterday. I'm really not sure why this is happening today.

So...I and a few others fixed our laptops! There was a solution given in this Slickdeals thread by smt96 and it worked perfectly. Another poster suggested to disable the system firmware service in Device Manager which I did also. I'm so happy that this worked!

Hi,
First, try performing a power reset. In the document linked below, you can see how this is done.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768
see if it helps.
Try entering BIOS. Turn off the PC by holding the power button. Turn on PC and continuously keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears. Press F10 to enter BIOS.
Is the PC still under warranty?
Let me know,
David

I tried all of your suggestions, but unfortunately they did not work. I am still seeing a blank screen when I boot up the computer. I also created a BIOS recovery USB drive and was able to boot to the BIOS recovery menu. After it installed the latest BIOS, it went right back to the black screen. I also created another HP Diagnostic UEFI USB drive and tried booting to that, but it didn't work. I contacted HP support and they are going to send my laptop in for repair.
