Hi, i recently purchased the HP 14-s fq1000na, it came with 8GB RAM already installed but found that i needed more. I purchased 2 x 16GB corsair vengeance 3200 DDR4 and installed them. Once they were installed the laptop wouldn't boot, The screen stayed black and the fan went at full speed and nothing else. I have tried just one stick, one and my original stick, but nothing happens. Everything is fine with the original RAM on its own. I would appreciate any help you could provide

Hi:
What is the CL spec for the memory you bought?
If it is not CL22, that is most likely the reason for your dilemma.
Your notebook most likely cannot adjust to the faster CL specification of the memory if it has faster timings (lower CL #) than the standard DDR4-3200 CL22 memory that originally came with your notebook.

In that case unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be.
While the service manual indicates that only 2 x 8 GB of memory is supported, the 5th generation Ryzen processor series should support 2 x 16 GB of memory.

You can also confirm that by running the following command:
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
I do find this interesting though...the Crucial memory report which usually provides the max memory supported also indicates that only 2 x 8 GB of memory is supported in your notebook.

I am very surprised by that.

You're very welcome.
That one has me stumped.
I don't know if you want to try the compatible Crucial 16 GB chip and see if that makes any difference...
