2020 HP Spectre X360 15-eb0053dx laptop.
Replaced battery with one from Amazon. When I start laptop with AC adapter plugged in, then unplug adapter, all works fine even on battery. If I boot from battery power the laptop will shut off just after windows opens. If I boot from battery into BIOS or UEFI laptop will shutdown in about 5 seconds. After either of those scenarios I cannot restart from battery, I have to plug in AC adapter then it will start.
Any ideas what I can do?

Hi @OliverMc19,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Spectre X360 15 laptop is not restarting when on battery after a replacement, there could be several possible causes for this issue. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Check the battery: Make sure that the replacement battery is properly installed and connected. Ensure that the battery contacts are clean and free from any dust or debris. If there is any doubt about the replacement battery's compatibility, contact HP support or the vendor from where you purchased the battery.
- Reset the laptop: Perform a hard reset by turning off your laptop, unplugging it from the power source, and removing the battery (if it is removable). Then, hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power. Reinsert the battery (if applicable) and plug in the power adapter. Try restarting the laptop.
- Update BIOS and drivers: Check if there are any pending BIOS updates or driver updates for your laptop. Visit the HP support website, enter your laptop's model number, and download and install any available updates. Outdated BIOS or drivers can sometimes cause issues with power management.
- Power settings: Review your laptop's power settings. Open the Control Panel, go to "Power Options," and check if any settings are preventing the laptop from restarting on battery power. Ensure that the "Critical battery action" is set to "Shut down" or "Hibernate" instead of "Do nothing" or "Sleep."
- Run power troubleshooting: Windows has a built-in power troubleshooter that can help diagnose and fix power-related issues. To access it, go to the Control Panel, navigate to "Troubleshooting," and select "View all" from the left pane. Then, click on "Power" and follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
- Test with another battery (if possible): If you have access to another compatible battery, try inserting it into your laptop and see if the issue persists. If the laptop restarts without any problem, it could indicate a fault with the replacement battery.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
