I bought a laptop from USA then moved to India and my adapter got burnt out. I was not able to find the same charger of 200 watts as it is not available in India. So i talked to HP customer support and they recommended to use a different charger of 200 watts which is being sold by HP in India. I bought it but it charges the laptop when it is sleep mode or in power off mode but does not charge it while i am using it.
I have updated my laptop with latest updates. Also ran HP support assistant and downloaded all the recommended updates but still i am getting same results. Can someone help me out with this issue?

@AditAggarwal
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
- Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
- Did you try another charger?
- Does the notebook shut down immediately (right after you unplug the charger)?
- Do you get any error message on your notebook (Such as Plugged in, not charging, etc.)?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)
BIOS default:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists, follow next steps.
Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests.
- The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
- To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.
AC Adapter Test:
The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.
Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.
- In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
- Click Run once.
- The AC Adapter Test begins.
- When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.
Battery Test:
Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:
- In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
- Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
- When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.
If the test passes, continue with these steps:
1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
2. Expand batteries.
3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
4. Shut down the computer.
5. Disconnect the charger.
6. Remove the battery.
7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
8. Insert the battery only.
9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

@Echo_Lake
Thank You for reverting back.
1. This happened as i changed my charger as the old one got damaged and this was the only 200W charger available in India. So i bought this new HP Charger and facing this problem since then. But it works fine if lapptop is in sleep or power off mode.
2.No other HP charger is available with 200W
3.No it does not gets shut down. The charger charges it for approx 10 seconds and with a notification of Smart AC Adapter is not enough capacity and then it stops charging after that pop up.
4.There is no error message but a pop up is there after which laptop stops charging. I have disabled the pop up but problem still persists.
-Hard Reset: Did follow all the steps but there wasn't any change.
Bios Default: Made the BIOS default but there was no change.
Diagnostics Run: Ran the diagnostics, so for battery there was no issue but when i plugged the charger it showed an warning or error the charger was of too low capacity required for the system. But the charger that i bought is of same configurations.
AC Adapter Test: Showed the above issue
I think the issue is that machine is not able to recognize the config of the new charger. So we need switch off the registry which checks this AC Adapter capacity. As my laptop is charging at good rate when my laptop is in Off state.
Previous Adapter HP Part Number: L00895-003
New Adapter HP Part Number: 815680-002
The original part number or its replacement part is not available in India so instead bought this new adapter of same config. But it is not charging my machine.

This is not a hardware issue as the laptop is charging when it is in switched off mode. This is some software or registry which is preventing it from charging while it is in switched on mode. Can you please help me find the fix.

The problem could be with the AC Adapter since it is not providing enough power. If you have purchased the AC Adapter from HP I suggest you contact HP Support for replacement
