zbook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After installing a new 1tb HDD in my zbook I noticed that I have a 465.75 gb partition (D): . That's half my hard drive. It says there's 465.60 gb free space. How do I un-partition the 465.75 gb  (D) drive to make the full 1 tb?

Hello @Savatreatabvr,

In order to extend the C: partition (I assume that's your main system partition) to the D.: partition, you'll have to delete the volume first.

In Windows Search, search "Create and format hard disk partitions." Right-click the D.: partition and select Delete Volume. It should say unallocated now. Then right-click the system partition (most likely C:) and click Extend Volume. Then go through the steps and confirm the process.

Hope that helps,

Eddy

I  deleted volume (D:) and it now says unallocated. I right clicked (C:) but the two words "Extend Volume"  is shaded out, half as dark as the other words so I basically can't click on it. . I'm thoroughly confused now.

Could you please send a screenshot of Disk Management?

Hello @Savatreatabvr,

Looks like I jumped to conclusions too quickly. There's a pesky HP tools partition slotted in between the C: partition and the unallocated space which is preventing you from extending the volume. In order to extend a volume, the unallocated space must follow right after.

How did you install Windows on this new drive? If you installed drivers and everything on the laptop's support page then that means the HP UEFI Support Environment should be available and you should be able to reinstall it after deleting the HP Tools volume. The HP tools partition provides UEFI Diagnostics and BIOS updates.

So if the HP UEFI Support Environment is available, you can choose to delete the partition HP Tools and then extend the volumes from there. Then regain the HP Tools partition again.

If you would prefer, other third party software may be able to merge the 2 partitions but I am not very familiar with third party applications but you could check something like this.

Kind regards,

Eddy

Ok, I guess the new HDD wasn't installed, a friend reinstalled Windows via jump drive on the old 1tb HDD.  So I bought the new drive and it wasn't used. That would explain why the 465.75gb partition was is still there correct? Should I install Windows on the new HDD or Is it safe to delete  the HP TOOLS partition?
