Left ctrl key is not working. Tried almost all possible suggestions including below steps

Uninstall ps/2 keyboard from device manager

Reinstalled Windows OS to factory reset

I purchased this notebook from US but currently in India and not receiving any support from hp India and most importantly unable to reach US customer support from India.

I desperately need help. Hp India is not supporting.

Can Hp respond to me and help please .

It looks like your laptop is 3-4 years old. Is it still under waranty? If not, your only resource without paying a fee is here in this forum or take it to a service center.

Have you run the UEFI Diagnostic tool on the keyboard? See here- https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/diagnostics?category=computing&issue=keyboard-trackpad-touchpad-is...  Click on the icon labeled Use HP Hardware Diagnostics and follow the instruction there.

If you use that key a lot, it may be worn out, but should have given some indication it was wearing out, they generally start giving slight problems and get worse over time. If it is a mechanical failure, the only options would be to take the ctrl cover off and clean underneath it or replace the keyboard. Cleaning is a delicate procedure, it's easy to break the tabs on key covers.

New keyboard is built into the top cover and requires complete disassembly.

Thank you very much for your time and response.

I tried UEFI method but it gives me an error while performing this task like "command file is missing or not properly formatted".

Tried installing from hp support website as well, but get this error during boot while selecting diagnostics option.

Also, my full keyboard does not work during start up / login, neither PIN nor password. I have to wait for 1 minute for Pin to reappear then i can type, or use on screen keyboard type a character then keyboard responds till then cannot type anything.

Tried basic troubleshooting like uninstalling ps/2 keyboard and drivers etc etc. All are of no help.

I have hardly used this laptop for 10 times since I purchased.

I WILL NEVER EVER BUY HP AGAIN, DURING PURCHASE THE SALES TEAM PROMISED IT HAS INTERNATIONAL SUPPORT.

BUT NOW HP INDIA SAYS I NEED TO SPEAK TO HP USA ONLY. AND ENDED BY SAYING HP CANNOT HELP ME ON THIS LAPTOP ISSUE.

From India you cannot call USA tol free number its very expensive to make a call to USA.

Never expected such a response / stand from a global company like HP.

My last hope is if anyone can help me here in this forum, this is a well known issue of LEFT CTRL Key not working.

Thank you

hello,

please do the following.

(1) Connect an external USB keyboard and mouse to work with the notebook in this situation.

(2) Update your Bios to F.36 Rev.A

https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-spectre-15-ch000-x360-convertible-pc/1...

(3) Install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI and test your keyboard !

https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-spectre-15-ch000-x360-convertible-pc/1...

(4) See all drivers here for your notebook:

https://support.hp.com/de-de/drivers/selfservice/hp-spectre-15-ch000-x360-convertible-pc/16779588/mo...

(5) If you are not lucky the keyboard could be damaged/defective or the electronic wiring and connections of the keyboard to the mainbard are not correct/broken/have come loose ... please check additionally

best regards
