Hp omen ce015
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My left fan on my Hp Omen ce015 laptop makes a loud grinding noise whenever i start it up. It does not go awway after a while, and the only way to make it stop is by knocking on the general left side. When the grinding noise is happening, the left fan does not put out any air. I have opened up my computer once, cleaned it out, and then put it back together. This helped for a few hours, but when I turned it back on, the grinding noise came back. This noise is extremly loud, and is making it impossible to use the laptop, because it is also preventing the fan from working properly. Any good suggestions?

HI @Richardshouse7,

Good Day.  Thank you for posting your query in the HP community.  I read the post regarding issues with the fan not working correctly. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description and spectacular troubleshooting and commendable diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:

  • Did this happen after a power outage or surge?
  • Does the computer overheat?

For now, try these steps:

  • Update the bios and chipset drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2syreDe and check if the issue gets corrected.
  • If it persists, please run diagnostics on the fan from this link: http://hp.care/2uoegKc and run tests on the fan under component tests.

If diagnostics fail, it will report a failure code. Please make a note of it and contact HP phone support to get the computer repaired.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://hp.care/2r9wSvP

  • Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
  • Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
  • Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
  • Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

If diagnostics on the fan pass, then contact follow all the relevant steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sV472N (HP Notebook PCs - Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal) and check if it gets fixed.

  • Also, if the computer overheats, then follow the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2sFzEsK  (HP Notebook PCs - Reducing Heat Inside the Laptop to Prevent Overheating) and check if the issue gets resolved.
  • If it continues, then contact HP phone support to get the computer serviced.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Cheers!
