HP Stream 13-c00dx
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

My left shift, x, z are the only keys on my laptop that are not working. I have an HP Stream 13 series running on Windows 8. I am using the on screen keyboard to use those 3 keys. I have done the follow to try and fix it.

1. Updating the Keyboard driver. It was up to date.

2. Troubleshooting

3. Scanned for Malware

4. Performed a Clean Boot.

@CaptainHugNKiss Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that the Left Shift, z, & x keys not working.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Have you tried to update the BIOS?

If not, please update the BIOS.

Please perform the keyboard test and let us know the result.

1. Power off the PC and make sure that it is completely powered off.

2. Press the power button and the moment you press the power button immediately start tapping F2 key, you should see the system diagnostics screen.

3. Look for the component test, under that all the hardware will be listed, please choose Keyboard and initiate the quick test.

Note: If it fails it will generate a 24 digits alphanumeric failure id, please capture that.

Thank you so much for your response! I followed your directions. The first time I did the test I was able to type each key and the only ones not working were the ones I mentioned. I was not able to click "fail" before the test timed out. I preformed the test again and for some reason both the left and right shift keys, as well as x, z were not working. The code was 9LW09K-7H9A3N-MFPWL1-G00903. I returned home and let the PC turn on. I tested the shift keys and my right shift was working and left was not. So, I turned the PC off and ran the teat again. The test this time the z & x keys registered! But again, both shift keys did not. Which, my right shift does work, so I'm unsure as to why it's not registering. The same code was produced. I attached an image. I would like to note, that I do not have a "page" key between my lower right "alt" & "ctrl" keys.

I did let the PC turn on and my left shift, z, and x were working simultaneously. After a few minutes the keys are now working!
