HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 15m-ed0013dx
Microsoft Windows 11

This isn't really much of a question- more of a complaint really but HP has made it readily clear on this website that if your warranty has expired they don't want to speak to you.  2 years ago my old HP laptop (another in the Envy series line- purchased in 2014) had its left hinge break to the point that I was unable to close the computer without causing further damage and cracks.  Given that it was 6 years old and had been through a lot through my collegiate experiences, I replaced it with another HP Envy since it had served me so well beforehand.  This last week I had the EXACT same hinge issue occur, even though my new device is less than 2 years old.  It was actually worse than the previous issue as the screen began to actively crack at the hinge and in the left corner and would not close at all.  I took it to my local Geek Squad location, and was just informed today that the estimate to repair the computer would be over $300.  I'll say it out loud in case anyone from HP actually monitors these boards: YOUR COMPUTERS SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRING 300 DOLLAR REPAIRS WHEN THEY AREN'T EVEN 2 YEARS OLD.  I'm furious.  Then I come to the website to find a place to lodge a complaint to alert them to this recurring issue (clearly a design flaw) and have to run through hoops upon hoops to get anywhere (hard to find a serial number to get through anywhere when you don't have the device because it's being repaired).  Then I get hit with the no warranty no phone line nonsense.  Then I find through looking at posts that other people had this exact same issue and they did nothing.  I'm disgusted, and angry that I now have to pay more than $300 for a repair when I have kept my device in pristine condition.  I know this is merely a support community and that none of you caused this problem but I definitely needed somewhere to vent my frustrations where HP corporate MIGHT see it even though I doubt they'd offer any assistance.

Hi Lgaylor,

I have the same issue (I have a 7/21 Post). This must be a known issue since there are so many posts.

The other hinge related Posts I've seen end with a posting from HP similar to this (ending the Post with a cheerful impression).....

Welcome to the HP Support Community. We are really sorry that you are facing hinge-related issues with your HP Envy X360. We want to help you with it.

I have sent you a private message with further instructions to get this issue sorted....

I can only speak for myself, but my experience....

The private message I received instructed me to call a specific HP service group since it's a hardware related issue. I called, and it was an automated line that would not transfer me to a HP Representative unless I paid a $50 fee for the privilege of speaking with a live representative.

I replied to the private message, pushing back on paying a $50 fee to simply find out if HP is willing to help with what appears to be a known issue.

I ultimately  received a final private message from HP confirming that I would pay charges since my laptop is out of warranty.

So I'm paying a local repair shop $250 to repair my hinge....I'm fortunate that I caught the problem before it cracked my screen.
