As has happened to many others, my left shift key has stopped working. I don't game on this so it doesn't get a bashing, so at just under 3 years old it's pretty poor quality. I'm really getting fed up switching the caps lock on and off so looking for a fix. Just discovered the individual keys can't be replaced/repaired and replacing the whole keyboard is not an easy diy job either, otherwise I'd be happy to take the task on. I have followed all the recommended steps, removing and reinstalling the driver, bios update, and hardware diagnostics (which it passes as the right shift key activates the left on the onscreen test). Can I have some further help?

If its still under warranty your only option would be to send it in for repair, without that option then a repair shop is your only other choice and the repair could be costly as from looking at some images it looks like the keyboard is integrated with the top part of the chassis meaning the whole top will need replacing not just a simple switch out with a working keyboard. It's bad design if you ask me if that is the case, cheaper manufacturing costs over something that can be serviced and kept running, at a time when e-waste is so high and world pollution a prominent issue it is extremely poor decision making on HPs part.

It isn't under warranty, I'm quite happy to sort out most issues myself, replacing worn out ports in a Dell required a lot of dismantling but doable. I'm really disappointed in this design and regretting my decision to buy this model. HP should be ashamed of themselves, and a gaming laptop should have more hard-wearing keys. Prob cheaper to buy a new one than repair, what a waste.

I agree a gaming laptop should be just as modular as a PC, at least to the extent of easily allowing battery/keyboard/mouse button & trackpad/CPU/RAM/wifi module, and SSD replacements/upgrades. Anything less than that you might as well buy a budget laptop for £400 or so and even there for the sake of saving on e-waste I'd still expect the above criteria, I can't stand the ***bleep*** that is creeping in now like RAM and CPUs being a physical soldered part of the motherboard.
