HP Notebook - 15-dw0081wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to upgrade my HP Notebook 15-dw0081wm that was given to me by my son's friend. He had it so messed up that it took me an entire day to boot it up. I've factory reset it and it's better, but still ridiculously slow.  I found specs for this laptop on the HP website. It has "4 GB Samsung 2400MHz in memory slot 1", and it supports "up to 16GB" of "DDR4-2400 dual channel support". How do I know how many slots it has?  It only mentions a "memory slot 1" but there's a list of the optional configurations that it supports, like 2 x 8GB to upgrade to16GB RAM, or 1x8GB or 2x4GB to upgrade to 8GB, etc.. Do I have 2 slots? How do I know which kinds I can pick from?  As long as it says DDR4-2400? What's "dual channel support"? Is that something I need to look for? Trying to shop online, they all have so many other numbers and I don't know what they mean. Like "(PC4-19200) C16", or "MT/S SR x8 SODIMM 260-Pin", and "CL15-15-15-35"... what the heck is all that? Also, I know getting too much RAM would have no effect if there's other things that need to be upgraded. Is 16GB too much for this laptop? Which leads me to my final question:  If there's other factors slowing it down or keeping me from benefiting from 16GB RAM, what else could/should I upgrade?

Thanks so much!

Hollie

Hello,

It seems your notebook has only 1 slot that supports up to 8 GBs of ram, according to crucial ram compatibility.

So if you wanna upgrade your ram, you may think to buy an 8GB 2400 MHz and a CL value that is lowest as it can.

I also suggest you to upgrade your storage to SATA SSD, if you have the stock specs of this laptop model.

Hi! Thank you for your help. Before your response, I was sure that I had two memory slots. So, what's a "CL value"? Also, why do you suggest that I upgrade my storage?
