I have to ugrade my Bios on my HP OMEN dc0850nd, because I experiment some problems at boot up.

My OS is Linux. Everything works quite fine. Except that I can't upgrade the Bios because the Bios update file seems to work only under Windows.

I have tried a lot of solution find on internet, as using Freedos, Dos... I have even installed a VM with Window 11, whitout success. I even tryed to install windows 11 on a USB HD, but windows refuses to install on an external drive. I am stucked.

How to upgrade my Bios ?

@PhBobo,

See this post below to update BIOS under Linux. Kyle_b created a bios update usb flash drive and used the bios recovery procedure (press Win and B keys) to update bios from the usb drive. Pjc123 confirmed this method worked on his Linux laptop.

The HP link in kyle_b's post doesn't work so use this link (see the "Recover the BIOS Using a USB Recovery Drive" in section 3. Manually Recover the BIOS) for detailed instructions. You just need to use a Windows-based PC to create a recovery usb drive.

Thank you, it works. I would have had less hard work if I had found somewhere that we should press Win-B + Power Up.

Is it a chance that, in the future, bios update could be realised througt fwupd? Or, easyest, to have a bios option to update it in the bios menu? I really like the fact that most of your computers are fully linux friendly. As I am exclusively on Linux for 30 years now, I think that it is pitty that we should go through Window, as I had to provide myself with a copy of windows and then install a virtual machine...
With all the failures I cross, it tooks me two full days to upgrade my Bios. It's way to much, isn't it?
