Hi @Trinda, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop keyboard is locked and unresponsive, try these solutions:
Check the Lock Key
- If Num Lock, Caps Lock, or Scroll Lock is enabled, turn it off.
- Some HP laptops have an F-Lock or Fn Lock key that might disable keyboard functions.
Use the Function Key (Fn)
- Press Fn + Esc to toggle function keys.
- Press Fn + Num Lock (if applicable).
Restart the Laptop
- Restart your HP laptop to refresh the system.
Check for Physical Issues
- Disconnect any external keyboards or USB devices.
- Clean the keyboard to remove dust or debris.
Enable Keyboard in Settings
- Go to: Control Panel → Device Manager → Keyboards
- If you see a yellow warning symbol, right-click the keyboard, select Enable device, or Update driver.
Disable Filter Keys
- Open Settings → Ease of Access → Keyboard
- Turn off Filter Keys and other accessibility settings.
Try an External Keyboard
- If an external keyboard works, your built-in keyboard may be defective.
Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect all power sources (charger, battery if removable).
- Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect power and turn on the laptop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
