Pavilion X360 13-S120nr M1X01UA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am looking for the Maintenance and Service guide that covers this model.  Need to confirm available memory configurations and number of slots.  Also looking for a list of supported SSDs.  Have seen the guide that covers through model S099 which does not cover this model.

Key specs on this model:

Intel Core i3 6100U  2.3Ghz

4GB PC3L DDR3 12800 RAM

Intel HD 520 Graphics

1366x768 Display

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Apologies for jumping in unannounced.

Found this "similar" for the s000-s099 models.

Yes, the "Office Max" version might be different in minor ways -- computers sold in "other than HP" retail stores have their own model designators.  The particular build (components, software) might be a bit different than the same model series you would find at the HP.com online store.

In so much that I am aware, the remove / replace procedures are the same for your model series as for the s000-s099 models.

The HP PartSurfer can be used to search for available parts specific to your computer.

Open PartSurfer

  • Select your Country
  • Enter your device Product Number , Serial Number, or Part Number in the Quick Search box
  • HINT: To see a system-specific list, replace the Product Number with your device Serial Number
  • Items accompanied by a tiny box in the Add-to-Cart column are available for purchase

Parts marked as available for purchase might be available from:  HP Parts Store

OR

Use your search engine to find the part number at your favorite online store.

Example:

HP PartSurfer - M1X01UA

Thanks for the response Ichi.

That's not it...it would specifically be titled Maintenance and Service guide.  It may not list the specific X360 model(s) in the title though as I've discovered that some of the M&S docs do not (I've looked at a bunch).

If the doc title doesn't specify the model then the only way to be certain its the right doc (unfortunately) is to look inside the doc at the model listings and the processors which were offered in those models.

I'm wondering if this was a one-off model because it was purchased at Office Max...could have been made specifically for them.

Thanks DF I did find that M&S doc and the models are very similar to this one except that the processor and GPU were not in that earlier series.   External port layout is a bit different also.

I've seen some of the older X360 models (in YouTube videos) that only had a single RAM socket, and wanted to figure out if this one has one or two.  My money is on two, but better to know before you go inside.

Looked at the Parts Surfer site and only the 4GB module is listed for this model.

If you have checked the HP PartSurfer (use your Serial number for the most accurate check) and that did not find conclusive information, then my personal opinion (based on no direct experience with the hardware):

  • Wait for someone familiar with the hardware to provide you the information you need.
  • Open the computer and look at it.

Generally, though the some of the components inside a notebook computer are somewhat delicate, you won't do any (further) harm by just opening the case and looking.

You might also consider contacting your local authorized repair house.  Sometimes the technicians are willing to share a bit of information even if they are not going to work on your computer for free.

Good Luck.

All good advice, thanks again DF.

Taking apart the convertables is a bit delicate and I hope to only go in once 🙂

Happy ending to this story....there were two RAM slots and I was able to complete the upgrade in one session 🙂

Added 4GB and replaced the SUPER slow hard drive with an SSD.  The dog is now a pony.
