Hello. I'm trying to find a docking station for my wife's laptop. The model is 15-ef1300wm and the product ID is 4J5Q2UA#ABA. 

 

I'm not really finding any helpful results with my searches, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Questions such as your laptop/docking station inquiry are amongst the most challenging to answer.

 

You see, I checked into your HP 15-ef1300wm (4J5Q2UA). I was unable to find a definitive HP spec sheet showing that its USB-C port supports video output or charging. However, based on user reports, forum info and such, the USB-C on your model is likely “data only” (5 Gbps). That means:

 

  • You cannot use a DP Alt Mode dock/adapter on your wife's USB-C port (because the HP 15-ef1300wm’s USB-C is data-only).

  • You can use a DisplayLink dock/adapter (such as the Plugable UD-3900) via that same USB-C port (or even a USB-A port), because DisplayLink works over plain USB data.
