HP dv6t-6000
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I found my old laptop and trying to rejuvenate for occasional use and I'm curious on what my hardware upgrade limitations are. It already has 4gbx2 ddr3 ram cards and I want to convert to ssd instead of hdd on board hard drives and hoping to convert dvd slot for an additional hard drive. I intend on upgrading the OS. Can someone help me avoid the incompatible upgrades so I don't waste money investing?

This looks like your manual:

I was looking at DDR3 for my older Toshiba laptop. It sounded expensive. The manual above has detailed memory upgrade instructions in chapter 10. It doesn't say how much memory your computer can address, but  here is an article for Windows 7 RAM limits. Some versions are only 8GB RAM. You didn't say which OS you are going to try, so web search for that OS and "Addressable RAM limit" and  you should find a theoretical limit for your new setup.

The HDD is easily replaced with a 2.5" SSD and will plug into the same cable. If you get a Western Digital SSD, they have free download cloning software. If you get a SATA to USB data transfer cable, you can clone the drive already in the machine before swapping in the new one.

Not sure on that optical drive.

From what I've read and searched thus far, 8 gb ram seems to the max. I'll probably go with windows 10 but haven't committed to anything yet. Is there anything else I could upgrade such as the USB card, or wifi/Bluetooth card?

Those two items are things I never touch, so will leave it to others to answer.

Maybe look for your model on YouTube and see if anybody posted mods like you are considering. There seem to be quite a few HP hardware tinkerers on there.
