Thank you CF4 !

I have this PDF:s already. What I was looking for was more info about the motherboard. I am curious to know what all these availible slots can be used for. But now I mainly want to know exactly what kind of SSDs can I use for an upgrade of the 128 GB? Or can I attach a new disk in one of the availible PCI-E slots? The PCI-E x8 slot with x8 data lanes, can it accomodate an SSD?

I am looking at this SSD: WD Blue 3D NAND SSD 2TB M.2

It has a SATA 6Gb/s interface.

Speccy gives me this info about the current SSD:

=====================================

==================================

So the WD drive and the current drive use the same interface. So replacing the current SSD with the WD 2 TB SSD will work I hope? Will my laptop accept the new size? Maybe I am a bit paranoid here, with UEFI boot the disk size shouldn't be a problem, it's because the WD SSD is quite expensive I want to check here before buying.

Besides the SSD I have two Seagate Firecuda 2 TB  SSHD:s, one replaced the original 1 TB HDD and one is mounted in a HDD Caddy in the place of the optical drive.

The M.2 different interfaces and connectors makes me confused I have done some research but I am still uncertain.

Picture from this laptops' Maintenance and service guide:

The WD SSD appears to have the same form:

WD Blue 3D NAND SSD M.2.PNG

So I think the WD SSD will fit physically in the same slot as the current SSD. But will my system accept the 2 TB size together with the other two disks of 2 TB sizes? It would be so cool with a total of 6 TB disk capacity!

Sorry.

Not something I care to comment on.

That's OK.

I have checked the WD support Forum and found this:

Internal SATA 6.0 Gb/s drives are not detected by some motherboards

QUOTE:

Western Digital does not have information on specific PC or Mac computer systems and their compatibility with hard drive capacities or connection types. Please contact the vendor of the computer or motherboard to determine what capacity or connection type hard drive your computer or motherboard will support.

So I'll wait for a while for this forum to supply an answer. If it doesn't, maybe I will choose a 1 TB SSD from Crucial instead:

Crucial MX500 1TB M.2 Type 2280 Internal SSD

It's a safe choice because Crucial guarantee that their drive is compatible.

EDIT DECEMBER 16TH 2018:

I went ahead and bought the Crucial MX500 1TB SSD. It is less than half the price of WD 2TB SSD and I won't need the larger drive at this time. Listen up WD and other manufacturers! If you look at Crucial as an example you can learn how good support will boost sales. I mean Crucial actually guarantees their SSD will work in my laptop. WD doesn't do that, so why should I buy their SSD?

When I opened up my laptop and took away the original SSD I could see that the SSD connector in my laptop would accept a SSD with only one notch on the connector side, so this SSD would  also fit:

WD Black 3D NAND NVMe SSD 1TB M.2 PCIe Gen3 x4.PNG

This SSD WD Black NVMe has a different interface, PCIe Gen3 x4 and it is much faster then the SATA 6.0Gb/s interface.

According to Speccy, my laptop has three PCI-E slots. I bet the SSD slot is one of them! If WD, like Crucial, would guarantee their product is compatible, I would have bought it instead! I don't want to spend that much money when I'm note sure. It would probably work but if not I would throw away a larger sum because this WD Black NVMe is expensive.

Crucial have their own SSD maintenance software, Storage Executive. After installing that software, I could easily update the firmware, and activate "Momentum Cache" and "Over Provisioning". This software also pointed out to me that disabling 8.3 file name creation will boost perfromance on NTFS drives . Never heard about that before! Read more here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/121007/how-to-disable-8-3-file-name-creation-on-ntfs-partit...

The Crucial MX500 is faster than the original SANdisk SSD. Not that I have done any measuring, but I can notice the system is more responsive now.
