Looking for the latest AsMedia USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller driver to support an external Caldigit TS3 Plus docking station on a Windows 10 Pro HP Spectre 360 laptop. Does anyone know where I can obtain this file? Thanks.

You're very welcome.

The driver you have installed is 10.0.19041.

The version from Microsoft is only 1.0.16.

So the way I'm looking at it, the driver installed is much newer and since the other one would not install using the manual install method, it is not the right driver for your docking station's USB 3.1 controller.

I checked the manufacturer's website and I don't see that they have any Windows drivers for your docking station.

Hi:

You should be able to get it from the Microsoft Update Catalog

Thank you Paul. I have the following configuration:

I went to the catalog and found three entries that, to me, look identical. When I tried to download them, it appears the download file is the same name. Do you know if they are identical and/or why there would be three identical files?

Thanks for your help.

You're very welcome;

I downloaded both of these drivers and used 7-Zip to extract the cabinet files into their folders.

This one was the latest one that indicated AsMedia USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller

This one was the latest driver...

Microsoft Update Catalog

As far as I could tell, the drivers support the same hardware.

So, I would install the driver that I zipped up and attached below...

ASMedia Technology Inc - USB - 1.16.61.1
Last Modified: 5/20/2020
Size: 979 KB

None of the files have an auto executable, so you will need to manually install the driver.

First, download and unzip the file I attached to its folder.

Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

Go to the device manager, click on the AsMedia USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller needing the driver.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for drivers option, and browse to the driver folder you unzipped.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install if it is the right one for the hardware ID of the USB 3.1 controller.

Paul, your knowledge is incredible. Using your detailed instructions, I went to Device Manager and found the following:

None of the files in your zipped file  match the ones in the Driver File Details Box. So do you think  I currently have an improper installation?

Thanks.

Hi:

According to the screenshot you posted, you have the latest driver for the hardware version of the  AsMedia USB 3.1 eXtensible Host Controller your notebook comes with.

It is newer than what I found on the Microsoft Update catalog.

There should be no need to update the driver for that device.

Hi Paul. Thanks for your assistance.

I have a Caldigit Thunderbolt TS3 Plus docking station which has the port associated with the ASMedia Controller intermittently failing. The entire docking station is not failing, just the port with the ASMedia Controller. I have reloaded the the Thunderbolt 3 software on my laptop and that has not solved the problem. Caldigit  ran my original docking station on their Windows 10 and Mac units, the unit worked fine. (They sent me another unit.) Caldigit says they want me to reload Windows 10 OS. That is a pretty drastic step. At this point, I may lose one port and wait for the Windows 11 OS upgrade

Just one more question, you say I have the latest drivers. My version says Microsoft 1.10. The latest in the Microsoft catalog is version 1.16.47.2 with a date of 4/11/2017. I believe my date is more current, 6/7/2021, but my version is older, 1.10. Am I misunderstanding something?

Thank you very much for your assistance. I have learned a lot from you.
