Hi All,
My newish (5 months old) 15.6 inch Laptop PC15-d5000 notebook has a very loud fan noise that can best be described like somebody is vacuuming with a Dyson. It is a high pitched noise when the fan comes on and very disturbing when having videocalls or sitting in a meeting room (quite embarrassing). This high pitched noise has been there from the start. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Thank you

Hi @OzRob99,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your laptop!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure that your BIOS and drivers are up to date. Outdated firmware or drivers can cause hardware issues.
- You can update the BIOS via the HP Support Assistant:
- Install and open HP Support Assistant.
- Check for updates and install any available BIOS updates provided by HP.
Clean the Fan and Vents:
- Dust accumulation can cause the fan to work harder and produce more noise. Regularly clean the vents and fan to ensure proper airflow:
- Turn off the laptop and unplug it.
- Use compressed air to gently clean the vents and fan area.
Adjust Power Settings:
- Altering power settings can reduce the load on the CPU and subsequently lower fan noise:
- Open Control Panel > Power Options.
- Select Balanced or create a custom power plan that limits CPU usage.
- Reduce Maximum Processor State in Advanced power settings.
Check for Background Processes:
- High CPU usage from background processes can cause the fan to run at higher speed:
- Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Check for processes that are consuming a lot of CPU and terminate unnecessary ones.
Use a Cooling Pad:
- A cooling pad can help improve airflow and reduce fan noise by keeping the laptop cooler externally.Update BIOS and Drivers:
