So I just got my new laptop a couple of days ago and I'm already struggling with these quite annoying issues.
1. The fan situation is weird. It stays on full speed during booting and when you remain in BIOS without doing anything. I already disabled the 'fan always on option' and BIOS F.05 is the only and most recent released version but it's still not solving the issue. Funny thing: I tried out doing the same thing with in-store laptops of the same series but different CPUs and some of them had the exact same problem and it was mostly the laptops with Ryzen CPUs! Is there anyway the BIOS engineers can look into this? The mainboard itself is HP-manufactured after all.
2. The fan winds up and down regularly and audible enough to hear from the surrounding tables in the room when you work. If the fan goes on and off, this would suggest the CPU is regularly running hot enough to require active fan cooling during quite mundane tasks or idle. The laptop comes with a Ryzen 5 3500u and I checked the temperature and indeed it is quite hot: 46-49°C just running a browser and a text editor. The couple-years-old i7 CPU in my last laptop had a much lower temperature at around 35-39°C during idle and turned on during heavy tasks with not much noise at all. This HP laptop only has two places where warm air can get out: tiny holes on the bottom and the slits in the gap between the hinges. Apparently, this isn't enough to cool it down with that CPU in place.
3. When the fan is on, the sound frequency coming from it is higher than what I'm used to, which might suggest small blades running at high speed to cool that CPU the laptop can't properly handle.
4. Aside from the fan problem I'm certain there is this faint, but very constant high-pitched noise coming from certain areas of my laptop. Not sure what that is but it is very taxing to listen to it for a couple of hours while on the laptop. I've read about coil whine but I'm not sure if that is what I'm experiencing here because the sound eminating is much higher than what I'm hearing about coil whine. I've tried to measure it by using an app, not sure how accurate that is but that spike around the 15kHz area might be an indicator my ears aren't crazy.
.
I'm at a loss about what to do, if that is a manufacturing problem with all HP 15 laptops or if it's just a defect on this particular one.
