ENVY x360
Microsoft Windows Server 2016

Main Question: (1) Is 8GB Ram enough for HP Models 256 PCIe SSD / Intel Core i7

I'm on the fence if I should cancel a Costco Backorder on an HP ENVY x360 with 8GB Ram / 256 PCIe SSD / Intel Core i7.  The Reviews are nearly equal for 5 stars and 1 stars.  In research, I found the same at BBY and other stores for this Model.  On HP site the nearly identical configuration is on Model SPECTRE, which has 71 reviews and average 2.9 stars.

Common problems seen are; Black Screens, Screen color distortions, Low Battery life, Touch Pad issues with jumping.

I don't see these issue on Models using 12GB or higher RAM.

My Opinion:

Based on nothing more than the fact that you are questioning the purchase:  Cancel the order.

You don't want the computer else you would not be worried enough to ask for advice from strangers.  Smiling.  I mean that in the kindest way, of course.  The point is that "we" (anyone) will tell you anything.

Remember:  Most people use reviews to complain - few people bother to write into any site and say nice things.  Take that into consideration regardless of the brand of device.

Purchase the device you want with the configuration you want.

If you purchase directly from HP, the purchase is guarenteed for a period of time (30 days?  USA).  Hate it?  Return it and get another.  Obviously, laws and regional differences apply.  CHECK with HP before taking what I say as "golden".

Buy from the source (HP) if you can do so.  "Discount" models at discount stores might not be the same as you can purchase at HP -- regardless of "where you buy", you don't get the option to "build" your own if you buy off-the-shelf.

Do Not purchase a computer that lacks the best components you can afford / want.

Want 12 GB of ram?  Get it.

Can't have it with the model you picked?

Choose something else that can be configured the way you want.

If you buy the best you can, you don't have "What if" worries later.

Regardless of whether the computer you do purchase is actually the "best", you will know you tried.

Example:

In 2016, I bought (from HP) the biggest, baddest, fully loaded (FULLY), HP Zbook 17 G3 I could get.  Love this computer.  Paid a LOT of money for it.  NICE computer.  No regrets.  Issues?  A few.  Meh.  Don't care - fixed.   Very NICE computer.  Best I could buy.   Computer is getting older and it is still kick-backside fast and solid.

This is just ONE example:  "Your mileage may vary".
