You may get a 961 by ordering from HP. I went back and looked at a video I did of an upgrade. I had made a note that I got a PM961 by ordering through HP. So the first one I ordered was a SM951 and the second I got was a PM961 using the same ordering part number.
I believe your problem is the new chipset and probably any of a number of slightly older M.2 disks would work.
