M.2 Nvme SSD not recognized

Hello,

I installed a crucial M.2 SSD  nvme for boot and the hard drive as storage but unfortunately, bios or windows are not recognizing that the SSD is installed in the PCI slot. I know this laptop is compatible with it as I was told by a HP tech support. Please help

Hi:

The reason for your dilemma is that your notebook's M.2 slot only supports SATA SSD's, not NVMe.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

Chapter 1, page 2 has the supported drive types.

I contacted HP tech support and he said this laptop is capable of having dual storage configuration. He is the one who pointed me to this nvme ssd.

The service manual is quite specific regarding in which 15-cc model series NVMe drives are supported.

Whoever gave you that information that a NVMe SSD was supported in the 15-cc5xx model series was clearly mistaken.

Return or exchange the NVMe SSD for a SATA M.2 SSD, and your problem will be solved, and you should have dual storage as well.

Okay. So I looked at the sata m.2 ssd and it looks like the connector wouldn’t fit my laptop. Can you find me one that will actually fit this laptop? Thanks so much for your help.

If you are looking at a SATA M.2 drive and it has two notches, it will fit in the slot just fine.

I don't know what capacity you are wanting...I am showing you the 500 GB SATA model from Crucial...

Also if you had looked at the Crucial memory report for your specific notebook, you would have seen that only SATA M.2 SSD's were offered for your notebook.

But if you look at the report for the 15-cc100 for example, you will see that NVMe M.2 SSD's are supported.

I know you were placing your trust in a company representative, but it also helps to get confirmation.

You can see how tricky and specific some of these upgrades can be.

Hello,

I installed a Crucial SSD on my Hp Pavilion 15-CC563ST and its working and properly cloned. When I go into the BIOS to change the boot order, it's not letting me do it. When I click on the boot manager, it shows both the SSD and HDD but I cannot change the priority. Please help.

Hi:

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that.

The only suggestion I can offer is to make sure that you don't have Windows installed on the 2.5" drive because the PC will always want to boot from that drive first.

I suggest you start a new post on that subject if removing Windows from the 2.5" drive doesn't allow the PC to boot from the M.2 SSD.
