I have an empty M.2 slot in my Probook 440 G4. I am not sure what type of SSD can I use in it, PCIe or SATA-3 or NVMe. What will be my maximum size of SSD? What will be probable R/W speeds after the upgrade?

Please use the following reliable vendor
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP---Compaq/probook-440-g4
They guarantee compatible hardware. Looks like your machine only supports SATA III speed.
Regards.
