HP 15g-br104tx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I want to add a SSD drive to my HP 15g-br104tx laptop to improve the performance. I have gone through a similar post on this forum and from the post got to know that "Crucial MX500 500GB M.2 Type 2280 SSD" is compatible/supported with my laptop. However, Crucial does not have a return policy at my location. Hence, I am checking for other options.

I would like to know if the following WD and Samsung M.2 SSD are supported/compatible with my HP 15g-br104tx laptop.

Western Digital Blue 500GB M.2 Internal Solid State Drive (WDS500G2B0B)

https://www.amazon.in/500GB-Internal-Solid-State-WDS500G2B0B/dp/B073SBX6TY/ref=pd_sbs_147_3/262-9542...

Samsung 860 EVO Series - 500GB M.2 SATA Internal Solid State Drive (MZ-N6E500BW)

https://www.amazon.in/Samsung-860-EVO-Internal-MZ-N6E500BW/dp/B078218TWQ/ref=pd_sbs_147_5/262-954210...

Any pointers to help me decide among the 3 SSD is a welcome.

Regards,

Rinjo.

@Rinjo
Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

HP does not recommend to use Third-party measuring apps or parts as they are not tested by HP and may not be accurate.

NOTE: HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for your response.

I understand that HP does not recommend the use of Third-party hardware. However, HP original hardware (ones listed in the HP Maintenance and Service Guide on page 18 Chapter 3) are not available for purchase even from HP sites/other vendors.

In that case what should a user do when they want to upgrade/better the performance of their laptops?

If you do not support external hardware at least keep the supported hardware available for purchase...

Rinjo

Well that's the company line. Yes, you can use the WD Blue, Samsung 860 Evo or just about any other similar SSD and it will work fine in your HP laptop. Upgrading is something HP knows people do, hence they have this Forum, but it is not officially supported. So HP is not going to make a list of 3rd party hardware that is compatible or anything like that. Upgrading is a bit of an adventure and you have to use your wits a bit and you are of course welcome to consult the Experts here who have seen a lot of people doing specific upgrades and some of us are computer enthusiasts who have some first-hand experience. Nevertheless it is always a bit of a gamble that you undertake when you open a laptop for upgrade. I hope that makes some sense.
