Hello guys,

I want to add an SSD to my laptop which has the HP 820c motherboard. I know I have only space for one 2.5" drive and one SATA adapter, and I don't feel like replacing the optical drive trick, so I'd rather buy an SSD with M.2 connector, but I really have no idea if I have such a slot available, as I coudn't get that information neither from the Internet, CPU-Z or Lavasys Everest. The reason why I'm not opening the laptop is that it's still under warranty, If I know for sure that it has a slot, I would open it, cuz what life is that without an SSD, right?

If any of you guys have this motherboard or you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Cheers

See p. 30 for a peek inside. There is an M.2 slot that is supposed to be to the immediate left of the hard drive so that you can have a hard drive plus M.2 SATA mSSD disk. However, we have had reports that some models in this series lack that port when the laptop is opened and examined. This seems to be particularly true for those sold at Wal-mart and Costco, but not exclusively.

On laptops the information like this is generally found in connection with the laptop model because laptop motherboards are unique one-offs designed by the laptop maker. Not generally fruitful to search by the name of the motherboard because that does not mean much in and of itself.

If you need more help post back. If you are getting an M.2 disk make sure it is NOT PCIe/NVME but SATA-based.
