I am looking at upgrading the SSD in this and would like to know what my choices are. I know the form factor is "M.2 2280".
But what interface does it use or can it use? Does it need to be an SATA interface or can it use a PCIe interface? I really would like to know if I can get one of the Samsung 960 EVO drives, if the computer would recognize it and be able to access the faster speed reads and writes.
I'm looking at this one:

HI,
The PC supports M2 Sata drives. You will not be able to use the PCIe NVMe drive Samsung 960. However you can use the Samsung 850 evo drive and upgrade to larger size drive.
You can see this on page 3 of service manual:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05226489
To replace the drive you can follow these HP videos (click on solid state drive in list on left)

Thanks.
That manual you linked to says
"Support for optional SATA 2.5-in hard drives (7.0- and 7.2-mm)"
yet, when I opened my laptop, there was no spot for a 2.5 inch drive. So I am not 100% confident in that manual.
EDIT: It also says "HP external DVD±RW DL SuperMulti Drive" is available and that is certainly not true.

Hi,
The manual is for your PC, however it is also for loads of other PCs
"HP Pavilion x360 m3 (model numbers m3- u100 through m3-u199, m13-u100 through m13-u199, m3-u000 through m3-u099, and m13-u000 through m13-u099)"
So some things will be optional:
-The HP external DVD±RW DL SuperMulti Drive is an external drive (not internal) which is optional with the PC or certain models of the PC. Actually you can probably also buy one without purchasing the computer.
-If I look correctly at the video which I provided link to, it seems that next to the M2 connector is written Sata
-The Service manual is not totally clear and yours is the single solid state drive configuration.
Hope it helps,
David
