If this configuration (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06194986) is similar to your laptop, then there seems to be no M.2 slot. You can remove the 5400rpm SATA drive and replace it with SSD though. That will improve performance. If you want a larger drive but don't what to pay, look for SSHD.
There is only one memory slot. To find out what maximum memory your laptop motherboard can take, you need to find out what motherboard laptop has.
Hold down the Windows button and then press R
A dialog box will appear
Type 'msinfo32' (without quotes)
hit enter
A new window will appear
In System Information, look for Baseboard Product, which will most likely be an alphanumeric
Google with that number and see if you find how much max RAM this motherboard can take as you have only one slot and you should put max RAM you can afford to buy.

Hi, @Adam2909
Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.
HP 15 Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide
Chapter 1 has the supported drive types and the memory upgrade info.
Notebooks with the Intel core processors such as yours have a M.2 slot that supports both SATA and NVMe M.2 SSD's.
You can install up to 2 x 8 GB of DDR4 memory in your PC.
