M.2 slot

The crucial dot com website guarantees that my laptop is upgradeable with an M.2 SSD card but all the HP literature I have seen for this model does not mention this. Can anyone confirm whether the OMEN by HP - 17-an012dx supports M.2?

Oh yes it does. Has a slot for PCIe/NVME or SATA M.2 SSD.

Thanks for the link. Now here's the confusion.

The manual on the link you posted doesn't mention my model 17-an012dx and neither does the manual which support.hp.com points at...

But its the Manual HP posted on your Model support page and does cover the 17-an100 model series, which was right after yours. 

Product Name OMEN by HP 17 Laptop PC (models 17–an100~17–an199 and 17t-an100)

The thing you posted is the User Guide which will not have anything about upgrade options at all.
