HP stream 14 ax067nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Is the WiFi socket in my HPstream14 M.2? If so, would an M.2 drive work in it? I already upgraded the memory to 8gb. Would like to add more storage.

This "computer" was given to me, still new, still in the box, so I'm not afraid to tinker with it a bit.

Hi,

The slot is for WLAN module and will not work with an SSD.

It is difficult to get extra storage on your model, only SD cards or a fast pendrive.

Hope it helps,

David

Yes, Thank you.

Looks like I'm doing it the hard way.

I can squeeze the innards of a 240gb SSD inside the case (I've already done the "fitting"), and hard wire it to one of the external USB 3.0 ports. I've built USB 3.0 cables, and installed USB ports (soldered) on to a MB before. Not easy, but doable. I'll also lose one of the USB 3.0 ports, but the gain makes it an acceptable loss.

I'm seriously wanting to do this. I'm trying to make a little, portable beast.

This particular one was used one time, and was headed for the trash. Flawless physically. How sad!

People are throwing these things away. I'm trying to rescue them. :generic:

Hi Kunder,
I like to mod my PCs when necessary too. I like the idea of your project and would be interested in following how it works out. Maybe you can post some pics too.
Right now I am at the sea diving here in Italy. I'll get back to you on Monday morning.

All the best,
David

@Kunder

Any reason you don't want to use the SD card slot? This would be the cheapest and easiest option. I installed a 64gb sd card in the Stream tester/loaner I am using and configured the system to use it. Settings>System>Storage.

Not unless you can get Win10 to send the forced updates, to any place other than the ridiculously small eMMC.  I haven't figured that one out yet. Windows leaves no provision for doing this. However, there is ALWAYS a work around. Just haven't found it yet.

Only other option, is to shut off Win 10 updates permanently. I don't really want to do that, but I will as a last resort.

Actually, as I remember, Windows Update informed me of not enough space on C and asked if I wanted to specify another location at which time I chose the Micro SD card. You can also use a usb flash drive for that. This was the Nov 2017 Update. By the  time April Update rolled out I decided to made a usb Windows installer using the free Media Creation Tool at Microsoft site. Booted from it, deleted the partition and clean installed Windows. I had about 10-12 gb of free space.

With an SD card installed you have quite a few options using builtin tools. The one I mentioned above-Settings> System> Storage...change where content is saved. Also many programs can be moved to sd card. Settings> Apps. Click each one and it will tell you if it can be moved.

Of course your idea of adding an ssd is much more challenging and piqued my interest a bit.😊 There are a few guides on the internet that appear to disagree with the Solution posed here earlier.

I actually solved the problem. I turned it into a pretty good ChromeBook. 🙂
