Hi

I detect the memory that is mounted vertically just about next to the hard bay drive and is fixated with 2 small screws on top. The memory is connected to a small white cable that looks like a zif connector (but I don´t know if it is). Its not connected to an M2 socket.

Yes, the memory looks like it can be removed.

Do you mean that I can use a different M2 card (that has a different key set up?). Will it work, since the memory connects to a cable?

There is no M.2 in the picture. The storage you have is an eMMC board and it can be removed from the system by taking out the two screws and disconnecting the 2 zif ribbon cables. You do not have a dedicated M.2 port. I can see the traces on the motherboard where one would be soldered so your system does not have one. You can put an M.2 in an adapter board specifically for an M.2 in the place where the eMMC board is now or you can have a 2.5 inch disk located in the same place.

I have given you the part numbers for the 2.5 inch adapter pieces. How large (capacity) is the eMMC you currently have? 64 gigs?

I have 115 GB and used about 50 GB ion the OS and standard apps (no games). This is why the situation makes me nervous, because I can see my memory reserves dwindling down fast.

Ok, so I can put an M2 adapter in place? It sounds easier to just put the M2 adapter in place.  Do i just use the connector cable from the eMMC card to connect it with the M2 adapter?

'

I see in the picture that I can place a 2.5 inch SSD in the hardrive bay, but I would still need connectors and cables for that or can I use existing connectors in the existing set up?

Summarizing, what is the least amount of hardware utilties I need to purchase so I can have a functioning SSD? It seems the quickest and easiest way to fix it is with an M2 adapter connect it?

HP Recommended

Either way, M.2 or 2.5 inch you need to purchase an adapter board bracket and cable in order to enlarge the storage and install something other than the eMMC disk. The eMMC is a pretty fast storage solution and if you have 65 gigs of 115 still left you are not in any crisis situation.

Where are you located (country)? I think the first thing to consider is what is available from the HP parts Store in your location.

No net yet in crisis, but soon since i use the laptop both for home and business.

I am located in Sweden.

The impression I got, it seems simpler just to handle a M2 all the way.

But ok,  i will study the manual. From the sound of it, its not difficult to mount an adapter and cable?

Will look at the HP store and check it out, as well as Ebay.

Post back if you need any more help. I would actually say you need to go with a 2.5 inch disk since they are more readily available and slightly less expensive per gig. The mounting parts are likely not to be available on eBay and you would have to get them from HP.

Unfortunately the parts cost 3 times as much in the swedish store compared to the US and earlier reference prices you have given.

What I see right is return the laptop, and if the store is difficult about it use a NGFF adapter with a M2 memory that I can either dual boot with another OS on the laptop or use the adapter as extra storage.

Thanks for your help and marvellous support!
