Hi:

HP only has the service manual for the older 17-by1xxx model series on your notebook's support page.

HP 17-by3000 Laptop PC series - Setup and User Guides | HP® Support

According to chapter 1 of that manual, HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 512 GB In the model series.

Usually that is just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.

There is no software available that I know of that will provide definite information as to the maximum capacity drive you can install.

FWIW, the Crucial memory/SSD report indicates that they sell NVMe SSD's up to 4 TB in storage capacity for your notebook, so I suggest you contact Crucial support for confirmation that a 4 TB drive will definitely work.
