Hi folks,
The Nvidia MX150 in my HP Envy 2018 has began to thermal throttle. No matter what game I use, when I put it on HP performance it immediately hits 93 degrees and throttles back which causes frame rates in all games to jump around. This was never a problem before, the games ran well. This issue is for all games be they new or old making all gameing on the mx150 impossible. Is this a hardware heat issue do you think? I reinstalled windows and drivers but it made no difference.
Thanks in advance

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
use the following steps:
- Shut down the computer, and then inspect and clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Dust can accumulate inside the vent openings and around internal cooling components, preventing the removal of heat.
For more information on reducing heat inside your computer, see Reducing Heat Inside the PC.
- After you remove the dust, turn on the computer. If the error message persists, continue with these steps.
- Perform a hard reset. Performing a hard reset can reset recorded thermal values in memory and enable you to use the computer again, even if only for a short time to access and save any important files before service.
For more information on performing a hard reset, see Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.
- In some cases, updating the BIOS might help prevent this error from occurring.
For more information on how to update the BIOS, see Updating the BIOS.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi there, thanks for your help, unfortunately this didn't fix it. The computer itself is fine, the cpu is posting normal temperatures, this issue only occurs when the Nvidia MX150 is in use as it immediately heats to 92 degrees before thermal throttling kicks in. It worked fine for the past year, this is a recent development. Any other potential solutions? I have done a full system restore

Thank you for posting back.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few more troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: ( do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating )
To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.
- To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon
.
- Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
- Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
- Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
- Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
- Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Once it's done check the computer temperature and performance.
Keep me posted for further assistance.
