HELP! My girlfriends laptop will not recognize that it is plugged in, thus the battery will not charge. The laptop will stay on for about 2-3 minutes before shutting off. I have attempted to use a power cord that is known to be working from another HP laptop and it still does not recognize it is plugged in. I cannot factory reset, in case it is a driver issue, because it says it must be plugged in to work. I cannot contact support because the serial number on the bottom of the laptop has worn off from use. PLEASE HELP!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

I recommend you update the BIOS and the chipset driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager.

 

Here is how you do it.

 

Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”

Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”

Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.

Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”

Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.

 

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

It looks like a hardware failure. I recommend you contact support to check the available service options for your computer.

 

Here is how you can get in touch with tech support.

 

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.
