Or Please confirm if my laptop is compatible with a nvme drive or not?

Thanks in advance.Help is appreciated.

Hi,

The manual:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06325755

It is not really clear. Yes, your notebook supports M2 PCIe NVMe SSD. You can also see that Crucial offers one for your model:

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/pavilion-15-bc220nr/CT13040627

It is always a good idea to check if the physical slot is present on motherboard before buying, as sometimes notebooks that did not come with an M2 SSD are missing the actual physical slot.

Hope it helps,

Thank you for your response. Can i put a samsung 970 evo plus 250gb/500gb in the m.2 slot present?WhatsApp Image 2019-05-26 at 00.11.18 (1).jpeg

Your welcome. I would go with the Crucial, Adata, Corsair ones as the 970 has sometimes we have seen compatibility issues with the 7th gen Intel Core HP notebooks. Even though it should work

But, yes that is the slot and what you need for a great boost to performance.

Thanks a lot. But are you 100% sure that my laptop can run a NVME drive with only a "M key" because in the below thread you recommended a SATA3 ssd with "B and M keys".

Please clarify.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Clarification-on-M-2-upgrades-...

Sorry for disturbing again but i don't want to waste my money because of incompatibility.

Your response is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

OK. Looking into it further. Let's not worry about B+M and so on as the slots in nearly all notebooks will have one notch and both M2 SATA3 and M2 PCIe NVMe SSDs will fit in the slot (but might not work)

The manual is not very clear and if you look at the manual provided for your model in the product page here and which I linked to you is actually for the 15-bc300 series and up.

Now this manual which I can not seem to find on the HP site

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1251703/Hp-Pavilion-15-Bc200.html#manual

if you look on page 9 and 10 states support for PCIe NVMe

So you can be quite sure it will work. The Crucial link I gave above, they guarantee their upgrades with money back return, so that also gives us some certainty that it is going to work.

I was wrong in that thread you linked :Crying:

  1. So this confirms that my laptop supports NVME :generic:
  2. Should I prefer a 500gb ssd or a 250gb ssd if i will use it with a 1tb hdd?
  3. Which brand would you recommend?

Thanks a lot. 😄

Yes, I believe so and there should be no problem.

I would probably buy from the link above because of the fact that the manual is not so clear, sometimes the M2 Samsung 970 has had some issues with 7th gen notebooks. The Crucial P1 might not be the fastest, but you are not really going to notice unless you are transferring large files from one PCIe drive to another PCIe drive all day.

I would buy from them because of the money back guarantee and the price is good, the same as you would find online.

About the capacity. It depends on how much space you need for the OS and software you install. So, you could go with a 250 GB or 500GB one.

Personally, if I had the cash, I would probably go with a 1TB one and just leave the hard drive out of the notebook, maybe get a casing for it and use it as an external drive or just leave it somewhere as an exact copy of the system as it was when it was removed.

Anyway, let me know how it works out and I can go and let that other guy know in the thread you linked that in the future he can upgrade to a PCIe drive 🙂

David
