HP Pavilion g6-2264ca Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I own a HP Pavilion G6-2264CA which I upgraded to 500 GB SSD, 8GB RAM (DD3 1333) and upgraded CPU from AMD A6 to AMD A10-4600 APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.30 Ghz.  I bought it new 9 years ago and have had a long success with this Laptop.  I even fixed a broken Plastic Hinge using Epoxsy Glue and recently replaced the battery as well.

However, it is struggling due to lack of Memory when multitasking.  I read in the past that the RAM limit of 2 X 4GB was set in the BIOS and was set when higher density memory was not available.

Well in 2023 one purchase DD3 1333 at 8 GB and 16GB RAM sticks.  I was thinking to upgrade to 16GB (2 X 8GB) RAM or even to 32 GB (2 X 16GB) by upgrading the BIOS to support these RAM configurations.

Has anyone tried this and if successful, it would be a great way to extend the life of this LAPTOP for another 5 to7 years for me.  Suggestions would be welcome.

I do own other Modern LAPTOPs but this HP Laptop extension could be a good legacy to have it for 10 to 15 years by upgrading.  Thoughts and Suggestions ???

Thanks, JL

Hi:

Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that the max memory is 2 x 4 GB;

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hi,  The number I got was 6291456.  Dividing this by 1048576 give me 6 Giga Bytes.  But I know this PC Can support up to 8 GBytes.  So I think what you gave me is just what is installed on the PC currently.  It currently has 6GB.
