Hi, I wish to upgrade the RAM in my laptop and wished to know what is the Maximum total RAM supported by this laptop's motherboard. All other RAM related info(Form, Frequency, Vendors, etc) regarding this upgrade are also welcome.

I did come across this answer(https://qr.ae/pNyGwg) which says that only 8GB is supported. I want to get this information verified so that I can obtain the best performance from my machine.

Sean Rene Mascarenhas's answer: Based on the respective model and part number here's the difference that matters: HP Pavilion 15 AB029TX M2W72PA RAM: Comes with 4GB and expandable to 16GB. Remove the 4GB and get 2*8=16GB for the best performance. GPU: 2 GB DDR3 940M. HP Pavilion 15 AB219TX N8...

Hi,

Max RAM for the notebook is 16GB of DDR3L 1600MHz (2x8GB)

There are two slots and at the moment you have one 8GB module and one empty slot. So, you could add another 8GB module in the empty slot. You can buy from your preferred brand. You can insert faster RAM which will still run at 1600MHz.

Example:

https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/pavilion-15-ab219tx#memory

on page 55 of service manual you can see the steps to install the RAM

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04642845

You should also upgrade the Hard Drive to a 2,5" SATA3 SSD which would give a great boost in everyday performance.

Hope it helps,

David

Hi, Thanks @lomare for a detailed reply. I have already added an SSD which keeps this old piece still usable.

I was wondering whether it is recommended to use an identical RAM(from the same vendor, Hynix in my case) for the upgrade or can I simply pair with any DDR3 SODIMM 1.35V 8GB RAM (for example from Crucial or Samsung)?  Is it better to purchase two identical 8GB RAMs?
