HP Notebook - 15-bs070wm
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I have purchased this computer second hand. I am using it for Video /Editing Production and Photo Editing. I keep getting conflicting information from people and various websites. I am being told that my computer only maxes out at 16 GB of RAM but they won’t tell me how they are getting that information. The best reason I have gotten was because “it’s a Walmart computer” due to the WM at the tail end of the SN.  It has one TB of storage HHD. I realize that I need to probably go again and switch to an SSD. Im just broke and have to do one thing at a time. I believe my first issue that needs addressed because of my Adobe program issue is my RAM. Also I currently only have 8GB of RAM I don't want to over kill my system but with video editing, I think 32GB isn't overkill. Also, I know that if your computer isn't set up to use over a certain amount of RAM, It is a waist and won't be accessed after the certain usable point. everything I have read is saying my max for this computer is only 16GB. My Task Manager is reporting two slots and "slots used" 2 of 2 SODIMM. I have since opened the case and confirmed this. See photos.  at an Idle with no open programs, "In Use" 4.4 GB "Available" 3.4 GB and both slots are in use. My Adobe program maxes this out hardcore. I would like to upgrade to Two 16GB sticks as long as It will not be a waist. In DOS, Entering “wmic memphysical get MaxCaqacity” into the command prompt or DOS screen,   It reported to be able to have 33554432 max capacity. 33554432/1024= 32768.............32768/1024=32.  Or 33554432/1048576 KB-GB is 32 and divide that number by available slots which is 2 should give 2 16 GB RAM cards. Also something interesting. My model number which is stamped in my case both in the bottom and inside. Says 15-bs070wm. But the computer reports the model # as 15-bs0xx. See the attached photos. Im wandering if maybe the motherboard was changed out at some point. To my understanding, I should be able to upgrade to 32GB of RAM according to the results reported from my computer,

But like I said everywhere I am reading says my system will only support 16. If you agree with 16 please tell me where or how you have gotten your information. Thank you, Shane. Hello, I wanted to update this form, I decided to order the 32GB of Ram and install it anyway just to satisfy my own curiosity. And I am happy to report that I was able to get everything installed and my computer is reporting complete use of the entire 32GB of RAM despite literally everyone telling me that it could only be upgraded to 16GB of RAM because Crucial said so. Crucial seems to be wrong as well as everyone else. However, it is true that my 24 MHz RAM has been throttled down to 2133 MHz I am using this computer to write this remark after upgrading, I have tested some of the hog programs that I was having issues within Adobe like Premier Pro and opening other programs at the same time like Adobe Illustrator, messing around with huge files that involve large 3D effects and huge video rendering. This computer is running everything at the same time like its nothing. The only limitations I think I still have for now is the reduced speed from my HDD. That upgrade will come a little later when funds allow. I am no expert by any means. But I did my own research, everyone told me that I was wrong from multiple platforms, but from what I can tell so far. I think I was right, and they were wrong. If something comes up where my system blows up or whatever, I will return here and report that. I will provide screenshots to anyone who wants them of my system reporting if someone will tell me how to share photos or emails on this platform. Thank you. Shane....

@Shane4846,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The max RAM you can fit on your HP - Compaq HP 15-bs070wm is 2 x 8GB (16GB) of DDR4 PC4-19200, 2400 MHz, No-ECC, SODIMM, Unbuffered, 260-pin RAM sticks.

This Crucial site is highly accurate when it comes to specify max RAM: HP - Compaq HP 15-bs070wm | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com.

As is this site: 15-bs070wm Memory Upgrade - HP 15-bs070wm Laptop Memory (memorystock.com).

Your 2400 MHz RAM may throttle down to 2133 MHz though, based on: HP Notebook - 15-bs070wm Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
