SSD M.2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was wondering if I can install two SSD M.2 drives into a HP 650-G2 notebook? The current configuration states it comes with a 256gb SSD-m.2 but I would want more storage capacity.

@SJJR,

If your model is ProBook 650 G2, it supports only one M.2 SSD drive. This is your service manual and Page 42 shows where the M.2 socket is located.

Your option to get more storage capacity would be either by replacing the current M.2 SSD with a one with higher capacity or installing a 2.5" hard drive/SSD drive. See p.39 for a hard drive bracket you may need.

Hi!

Although I hate to intervene on one of tk_srq 's excellent (as always) answers, if the suggestion is to ADD a 2.5 drive, this is not possible. A closer look at the mentioned page of the manual reveals that the 2.5 sata drive and the m.2 ssd occupy the same place, at the same time. If the suggestion is to REPLACE the m.2 drive with a 2.5 one, this is not a good idea since the m.2 ssd might very well be a fast PCIe drive.

As strange as it might seem, a second m.2 drive is the only way to get a dual-storage config on the 640/650 G2/G3 systems, by using the 2.5 SATA port and a thin SATA-to-M.2 adapter card.

Have a nice summer!

@TzortzisG,

The removal procedure of M.2 drive (page 42 of the manual) indicates that a hard drive needs to be removed prior to an M.2 device, and this gave me an idea that an hdd can be installed over an M.2 device but taking a closer look at the illustration below, M.2 and SATA sockets seem to be at the same level.

Thanks for correcting my wrong advice to SJJR. Keep up the good job.
