I bought this laptop a little over a year ago and I would like to find out the absolute best upgrades I can do for it. How do I go about finding that out? I know how to look up the specs, but not what max upgrades i can buy that are compatible.

The following link shows specs of your machine

Just forget about CPU and video card, they come in one piece of motherborad (means you have to buy the whole things and the OS). The cheapest way interms of price/performance and WORK is to upgrade RAM and HDD.
(a) RAM: it has 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB) now, adding 8GB more to the second slot to make 16GB. The follwing RAM is compatible

(b) HDD: Replace existing 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA with 1TB or 2TB SSD using the following compatible products

I installed 1 TB SSD to one of my test machine yesterday and I'm very happy with the outcome.
Regards.

What components did you have in mind? The CPU and GPU (processor and video) are not really upgradeable as they are soldered into the motherboard and if you try to get a new motherboard you might as well replace the laptop.
It can take up to 32 gigs of memory (2 x 16 gigs DDR4-2666 SO-DIMM) despite the official max of 16 gigs and it has an NVME M.2 slot so you could install say a 1 TB Samsung 970 Evo PCIe/NVME M.2 which would make it crazy fast for ordinary stuff like boot time and opening programs but would not have much effect on gaming. And on this model memory and M.2 upgrade are fully customer authorized so no grey area on the warranty.
Pages 31-34 show "how to".
That is a very strong computer. The 1050Ti video card is the only part that is not really top of the line but is adequate for light to medium gaming. Its perfect for video editing and other tasks that require a bit of extra video muscle. If you want to upgrade to improve gaming performance I would advise selling this and getting a laptop with at least the 1060Ti video.
Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.
