HP Notebook - 15g-br016tx

Hi,

I have an HP laptop with the following specifications:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 7th Gen
  • Current RAM: 8 GB DDR4
  • Storage: 1 TB HDD

I would like to upgrade the RAM to 32 GB, preferably by adding another RAM module if there is an available slot.

Could you please confirm:

  1. What is the maximum supported RAM capacity for this exact laptop model?
  2. How many RAM/SODIMM slots are available?
  3. Is my current 8 GB RAM soldered or removable?
  4. If removable, what is the exact supported specification — DDR4 speed, voltage, and maximum capacity per slot?
  5. Can I use 1 × 8 GB + 1 × 16 GB for a total of 32 GB?
  6. If there is only one slot, what is the maximum capacity supported in that slot?
  7. Are there any specific HP-approved RAM modules or configurations I should use?

My exact HP product/model number is: hp 15g-br016tx

Thanks.

@Siddant,

The service manual (on pages 2-3) indicates that your model comes with two memory slots supporting 16 GB (2x8 GB) memory.

To find out the max supported RAM capacity, click the link below and run the command.

2 Steps to Check Maximum RAM Capacity of Your Computer

If it reports 32 GB (2x16 GB), you can install a 16 GB module in an empty second slot if that's what you want to.

If it shows 16 GB (2x8 GB), you can add another 8 GB RAM in the 2nd slot. The parts list for your model indicates that it came with a Micron (Crucial) 8 GB DDR4-2400 memory. A Crucial 8 GB DDR4-2400 or -3200 MHz memory is a good choice to use.
