Product: HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1 Base Model Notebook PC
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My notebook (HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G1) already has a built in 4GB RAM plus one empty memory slot.

My question: What is the maximum RAM does this slot accept? Is it 4GB in which case total RAM will be 8GB, or does the slot accepts 8GB  in which case total RAM will be 12GB?

Hi, @Mehawitchi 

 

The max memory that can go in the empty slot is 4 GB.

 

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the memory upgrade info.

It only supports a very specific memory module.

 

You can only buy the 4 GB HP memory part number listed in chapter 5 on page 47, or the memory that the person used in the discussion below.

It suports

 

   One service provider-accessible/upgradable memory module slot
   4-GB memory integrated into system board
   DDR3L PC3L-12800-(1600 MHz) dual channel support
   NOTE: DDR3 memory is not supported. Only DDR3L memory is supported.
   Supports 8-GB of system RAM in the following configurations:
   ● 8-GB (4-GB integrated + 4-GB SODIMM)
   ● 4-GB (4-GB integrated)

 

That means you can use 4GB max with 4GB already there + 4GB from users
