Service Manual:
pp. 36-41 show memory replacement. Manual says 16 gb is the max. You have a single 8 gig module now and an open slot.
Actual max is 32 gigs or a pair of 16 gb modules. Adding a second 8 gig module to bring yours to 16 would likely be all the improvement you need.
