Bye to all. I have an old Compaq 610 with celeron processor and I have 3 GB Ram installed. I tried to upgrede to 4GB, but it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me if maximum amount of ram supported by my motherbord is 3 GB or 4GB? My motherboar is 308A KBC Version 26.08 end BIOS is 68PVU Ver. F.0B

Hi:
Run the free utility that I zipped up and attached below to see what model Intel chipset your notebook has.
I believe that the notebooks with the Celeron processors have the Intel GL960 chipset, which according to Intel supports a max of 2 x 1 GB of memory.
Intel® 82GL960 Graphics and Memory Controller
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates that only the notebooks that have the Intel GME965 and PM965 chipsets support more than 2 GB of memory.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
If your notebook has the Intel GL960 chipset, you already have more memory installed than the chipset was supposed to support.

You're very welcome.
I don't understand it either, but you are already beyond the max of 2 GB, and 4 GB must be too much for the memory controller to handle so the 4 GB of memory doesn't show up.
