HP Pavilion DV7-3183cl 17” notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

just a quick question…

I recently came into possession of a DV7-3183cl notebook with all optional accessories, as well as the xb-3000 base with all the accessories in near new condition. I’m currently doing a 500gb SSD upgrade, and my question relates  to the ram, it’s got 8gb of ram (2x4gb) and I know that is the listed “max ram” officially by hp, but I was curious if anyone has gotten more to work, say 12 or 16.. not a big deal, but I wanted to know if it could be done.

thanks for your help.

Hi, @RyanS1982

On notebooks such as yours that have the first-generation Intel dual core processors, the max is 2 x 4 GB and you would be throwing good money after bad trying to see if it would support more than that.

The dv7-3xxx notebooks with the first-generation Intel Quad core processors will unofficially support 2 x 8 GB of memory.

Normally Crucial gives one step up but not in this case

Perfect, thank you! I plan on leaving it as is, because although it is definitely old, it looks and runs as if it’s barely been used, and at a price point of $50 for the notebook and stand, I really couldn’t say no. The SSD will be a good enough upgrade, as my wife will be primarily using it for office applications and such. Thank you all for the information!
