Hi there!
I want to say in advance that I know that HP does not recommend upgrading devices
The official documentation states that the device supports up to 8 GB of RAM
I could not find the exact specifications of the motherboard of my laptop, but the experience of other people and the specifications of other components indicate support for 2x8 (it worked correctly for my friend on this motherboard).
I have 24 GB (1x8+ 1x16, DDR4-2666), but I do not know if this volume will be supported. I am more interested not in HP recommendations, but in the technical possibility of correct operation of the device with such a volume of RAM.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I don't know what the maximum memory for your model is, but if you already have the extra memory laying around it won't hurt to try.
Try installing the 8gb in slot one and the 16gb in slot two.
Though I would not totally close your laptop back up as you may need to try switching the memory from slot one to slot two if not detected.
You can easily find youtube videos that show how to open your laptop, you should just need a small phillips head screwdriver and a plastic pry tool like an old credit card.
Sorry I could not be more helpful.

It seems that HP limits the max ram of consumer laptops, letting their business models use the full amount supported by the chipset. That being said, Windows users can determine the maximum RAM capacity in the Command prompt with the command here- wmic memphysical get MaxCapacity
17-cp0097er
HP Envy 27-b014

Run cmd (admin) and type:
wmic memphysical get maxcapacity
and devide the value by 1024*1024
you can use 2 x 16 GB
