We purchased a ProBook x360 G8 last year, which comes with 8 GB memory.
The product specs indicate this is upgradeable to 32GB max, and lists these options for memory configuration:
- 32GB = 2 x 16GB
- 16GB = 1 x 16GB
- 12GB = 1 x 4GB + 1 x 8GB
- 8 GB = 1 x 8GB or 2 x 4GB
- 4GB = 1 x 4GB
Firstly, as it comes with 8GB, it could have 1 x 8GB or 2 x 4GB already. I guess I'll find out for sure when I open the case...
Secondly, I am wondering if this list is just a sample of what's supported, or if it's all that's supported? i.e. if it has 1 x 8GB already, can I add 1 x 16GB to give 24GB in total, or is that unsupported? Or if it has 2 x 4GB already, can I replace 1 x 4GB with 1 x 16GB to give 20GB in total, or is that unsupported?
Thirdly, does it have to be HP RAM specifically that we use, or is any DDR4-3200 SDRAM supported? The HP web site lists a 16GB DDR4 3200, but it's out of stock. It also has a list price of AU$210, whereas you can pick up a stick of 16GB DDR4 3200 Kingston RAM for AU$65.
Finally, if it's OK to use other RAM, what brand would be recommended?
Thanks for any help!
