Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I am really confused by the answers I have been getting on Google regarding the RAM upgrade limit and what all combination can I upgrade it to. Documentation available hasn't been useful too. If someone could guide me for the following:

1. RAM upgrade and best option. Present RAM is standard 4 gb.

2. Storage upgrade and how to install windows on the faster m2.0 or SSD. And what to upgrade to.

3. Also, last question is whether I could use present storage of standard drive and SSD at the same time or would I have to choose m2.0 only to upgrade along with this standard drive or can I go m2.0 and SSD together and if so then how would I be able to restore my windows on the new drive.

I am so so confused someone please help.

Service Manual:

download here

Its confusing in the Manual but here is the real info. 2 memory slots. Uses DDR4-2400 SO-DIMM and the max is a pair of 16 gb modules for 32 total.

Dual storage is an option. You have a SSHD now which is really a hard drive with a solid state cache module built in.  I would keep that and add an M.2 NVME SSD such as the Samsung 970 Evo. You will boot from the M.2 SSD and use the original SSHD as storage.

Happy to help further including purchase suggestions. Just post back with any more questions.

Hi Huffer,

Thanks for the reply. Storage doubt is crystal clear now. The only doubt now remains is of RAM upgrade. In some sites it's given that only 12 gb is the max capacity of RAM which this laptop supports. In a configuration of 8gb+4gb. Which is against all the logic of using the dual ch. Also, on one site 16 gb was mentioned. This is still understandable as 8+8gb in dual ch. But then on another site it was 32 gb which was mentioned. That's why I am stuck up. I don't want to buy 32 gigs and then repent. And the manual also doesn't give any clear answer to this particular question of mine. What's the max capacity of RAM of this particular model of laptop? Even in the manual of HP, it says 12 gb which is really really weird.

I warned you the Manual is off and incorrect. 32 gigs is the max. Universal success reported with 6th gen and higher Intel Core units running DDR4 with 2 slots on 32 gig install. However, 16 gb is plenty for most users and obviously much less expensive.

Thanks a lot.
